Ephemera Danica - Bosnia 2012

In no more than one week, we will be fishing the rivers of Bosnia with some of the largest mayflies hatches known to man. The Ephemera Danica is among the largest of the mayflies, and the trouts are know to go bonanza when they hatch. Amd we will be there!

I have purposely tied them light in color, because the Bosnian version is lighter than the version in Norway.

Mike at the McFarland Rod Company has outdone himself this time. A Limited Edition 9'2" 5wt S-glass fly rod that delivers one simple message; Enjoy me!. And let me tell you, he is absolutely right.

This rod, this one rod, quickly became one of my favorites as I tried it more and more.

Graywolf Special 9' 5wt 3pc Vintage

My new gem is finished, the 9 feet unsanded McFarland Vintage, a #5 3pc rod built by Shane, of Graywolf Rods, is finally finished and will head for her new home in Norway in a couple of days.

This truly is a Graywolf Special. I can hardly wait for the rod to arrive!

Crippled Dun's, a new expirience.

These flies, Crippled Dun's, are supposed to resemble those dun's that turns out crippled and never leaves the surface of the water. These are easy prey for the trout wich can become picky during hatches. Stocking a few in the box can't hurt I recon.

This one is a Baetis Rhodani, size 14 on a bendt Knapek hook.

An early start in Colorado

John Shuler, Telluride Angler, sent me a few lines and a picture from 2 weeks ago. Keep smiling John, it suits you!

It was a bluebird day in the Gunnison Gorge and the hatch through the middle of the day was sparse at best. I saw less than five fish feed on the surface for the four hours I was there. However, I am heading to the San Juan on Tuesday and cloud cover is in the forecast which hopefully means strong hatches and tiny dries!

Graywolf Special, 9' 5wt Vintage

Shane, of Graywolf Rods, has another project for me going, a golden wonder built on the McFarland Vintage blank.

Heres my idea for the McFarland Vintage Graphite. Titanium clover silk, it looks steel blue now but after varnish get very dark, but will still be see thru. I plan to marry in the gold silk at ferrules, and butt section area and keep the guides clean.
